Our Mission
At the core of Black Woman Will Bloom lies a profound belief in the intrinsic importance of Black women's healing. We understand that healing is not just a process but a transformative journey essential for the wellbeing of individuals and communities alike. Black women, as change makers and pillars of strength within their communities, often bear the weight of generational trauma and systemic injustices.
Policy & Advocacy
Building upon Black women’s political influence, ballot power, and commitment to civic participation.
Advocating for Black women
The people you elect as your state, local and federal government officials have the power to pass policies, regulations and laws that can help — or harm — your health.

That’s why our policy and advocacy team serves as your voice – evaluates and develops national and state policies to hold elected officials accountable for addressing issues most critical to Black women’s health, especially regarding: maternal health, reproductive health, diabetes, Mental Health, breast and cervical cancers, intimate partner violence and sexual assault.
Championing Reform and Legislation for Equity in Healthcare and Mental Health
Stand with Us for Change
At Brave Space Black Women Will Bloom, we are dedicated to advocating for reform and legislation that ensures equitable access to healthcare and mental health services for Black women in our communities. We believe that quality of care and quality of life should not be determined by your zip code. Together, we can create a future where every Black woman has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of her circumstances.
The Need for Reform
In Illinois, the disparities in healthcare access and outcomes for Black women are alarming. According to recent statistics:
- Maternal Mortality: Black women in Illinois are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women.
- Mental Health Services: A significant percentage of Black women report unmet mental health needs, with barriers such as stigma, lack of access, and financial constraints contributing to this crisis.
These statistics highlight the urgent need for systemic reform in healthcare and mental health services. The current landscape often leaves Black women without the support and resources they need to lead healthy, fulfilling lives.
The Impact of Access to Services
Providing access to healthcare and mental health services specifically for Black women will have a transformative effect on our communities. By championing reform, we can:
- Improve Health Outcomes: Increased access to preventative care, screenings, and mental health resources can lead to earlier interventions, reducing mortality rates and improving overall health.
-Empower Communities: When Black women have access to quality healthcare, they can take charge of their health and well-being, which positively impacts families and communities.
-Foster Economic Stability: Healthy women contribute to healthier families and communities, leading to increased productivity and economic growth.
Call to Action
We are calling on government leaders and community advocates to stand with us in championing reform for healthcare equity. Here’s how you can help:
